Working With Me
Frequently Asked Questions
About Gary Linge and The Moto Mind
These answers explain how The Moto Mind supports motocross riders, the areas of development the work can involve, and the ways riders and families can get started.

What does complete motocross athlete development mean?
The Moto Mind supports the development of the complete motocross racer. Depending on the rider, this may involve technical riding and skill development, race craft, decision making, performance psychology, preparation, race strategy or longer term development.
The focus is on what that individual rider needs to develop. The work is not limited to one area of performance.

Do you work on riding technique or performance psychology?

Both. Technical riding and skill development are part of my work, as is performance psychology. I also work with race craft, tactical decisions, preparation and other factors that can affect a rider’s development.

The areas involved depend on the rider and the situation.

How does psychology fit into your work?
Psychology is integrated into how a rider trains, races and develops, as well as how they manage the demands of everyday life. Depending on the rider, this may involve confidence, attention, decision making, emotional regulation, preparation or responding to pressure.
I consider these factors alongside riding technique, race craft and the rider’s wider development, so the psychological side is connected to what is actually happening in their motocross.

Who is The Moto Mind for?
My work is primarily for serious, committed riders and families who want to develop with purpose. This includes riders progressing towards national, EMX, SMX Next and professional motocross or supercross competition.
A rider does not have to already be competing at those levels. The right starting point depends on the rider’s needs and the type of support they are looking for.

Can I work with you remotely if I live outside the UK?
Yes. Remote services are available to riders worldwide. In person and trackside work can also be arranged selectively, depending on the rider, location, facilities and support required.

Can you help with technical riding and video analysis?
Yes. My background includes technical coaching and rider development. Video can help review any section of a track where technique is breaking down, errors are occurring or time is being lost.
Where appropriate, technical work can also take place through direct observation or trackside support.

Will you work alongside my current coach or team?
Where appropriate, I can work alongside an existing coach, team or training programme. My role is not automatically to replace the people already supporting the rider. The work may involve technical, tactical, psychological or wider development needs, depending on what the rider requires.
I discuss any communication with others involved in the rider’s programme with the rider or family first.

Do you work with parents as well as riders?
Yes, where appropriate. A rider’s environment can influence development, communication and decision making. I can help parents understand how their support, expectations and communication affect the rider, without asking them to become the rider’s coach.

How do I know which service is right for us?
The right starting point depends on the question you need answered.
The Performance Profile is a remote assessment of the rider’s current performance and development. The Rider Pathway Strategy Session focuses on the rider’s programme and next steps. A Live Performance Review involves direct observation and is arranged by application.
You can read about the current options on the Work With Me page.

How much does it cost?
The fee depends on the service. Please check the relevant service page for current details. Any application based or individually arranged work is discussed before you make a commitment.

Is the work confidential?
I take confidentiality seriously, given the close knit nature of motocross. I handle personal and performance information with discretion and do not share identifiable details without permission. An NDA can be discussed where appropriate.

What do you expect from a rider?
The work is most useful when the rider is willing to communicate, engage with feedback and take an active role in their development. Expectations are agreed around the service and the individual rider.

Is this work private?

All work is conducted on a private basis. Confidentiality is standard, with NDAs available where required.
